African Fashion International hosts a number of prestigious events every year with regards to the fashion industry. These include the Joburg Fashion Week, the African Fashion Week and the David Tlale Fashion Day which was held at the Nelson Mandela bridge last year. African Fashion International is spearheaded by chairperson Dr Precious Moloi Motsepe. The Mercedez Benz Joburg Fashion Week was held at the upmarket Hyde Park Shopping Centre from the 8th to the 10th of March 2012. The African Fashion International Fastrack Day was held on the 7th of March 2012. The African Fashion International Fastrack Day is a national fashion design development platform that aims to nurture and develop South Africa's raw talent. This platform offers young designers an opportunity to launch their careers through intensive mentorship,business development and coaching for future success. It promotes excellence through out the fashion industry of South Africa and the rest of the continent..
The Joburg Fashion Week has a new name behind it and it is now called the Mercedez Benz Joburg Fashion Week. It will showcase the latest designs by twenty five designers in twenty shows. Some of the designers who be showcased their latest fashion collections include Thuli Sindi, Gavin Rajah, Abigail Keats, Dax Martin, David Tlale. The sponsors of the Mercedez Benz Fashion Week include Carlton Hair International, Mercedez Benz, Davines, M.A.C, South African Airways and Quintessentially. The Joburg Fashion Week was a splendid show which showcased the latetest trends for the winter season. Coloured skinny jeans, waistcoats, flaterring leggings and the versatile blazer are some of the fashion items that are a must have for winter. Fashion buyers, fashionista's and the media fraternity who graced the occasion have commented that most of the contributions made to the winter collection were of high standard.
